St. Matthews has three kinds of homes, and each has its own comfort challenges.
Post-war Cape Cods and bungalows. Much of St. Matthews was built in the 1940s and ’50s, and many of these homes had air conditioning added long after they were built. Small ducts and too few returns leave rooms uneven, and the half-story bedrooms upstairs often bake in summer. A ductless mini-split is an easy fix for those upstairs rooms without opening walls or ceilings.
Ranch homes in the small cities. Neighborhoods like Woodlawn Park, Fairmeade and Beechwood Village are full of 1950s and ’60s ranches.
