Crescent Hill has three kinds of homes, and each has its own comfort challenges.
Victorian and Queen Anne homes. Many of Crescent Hill’s oldest homes started as summer residences in the late 1800s, long before central heating and air. High ceilings, plaster walls, and original trim make adding ductwork difficult, and upstairs rooms often bake in summer. Ductless mini-splits heat and cool these homes without tearing into the details that make them special.
Craftsman bungalows and Foursquares. Crescent Hill has more Craftsman homes than anywhere else in Louisville, and most had central air added decades after they were built. Ducts squeezed into closets and chases, too few returns and hot finished attics leave rooms uneven and drive up LG&E bills. Right-sized equipment, duct sealing or a mini split for the top floor evens things out.
Duplexes and small apartment buildings. Converted homes and small multi-unit buildings often have aging equipment in tight spaces, or one system trying to serve units that need their own controls. We size and install systems that fit the space and deliver reliable comfort to each unit.

Yes. Ductless mini-splits need only a small opening in the wall, so the original plaster and trim stay intact.
Older homes often have little insulation up top and ducts that can’t move enough air to the upper floor. A ductless mini-split for that floor is usually the simplest fix.
